Subdiffusion has been many things to many people. The name comes from the desire to distribute electronic sound via live performances and my love of sub sonic frequencies. It is also a field of scientific research that involves doing something with particles that is completely beyond my comprehension (or most peoples for that matter). Anyway, Subdiffusion to me is a loose collection of musicians, programmers, singers and other transient people who have come together to create live music with a digital sound.
There have been many incarnations of Subdiffusion but it all started back at the turn of the new millennium with Mathew Carter on fretless bass, Laura Pearce on vocals and Jon (that's me) on computers and vocals. The original idea was create live Drum n' Bass but we also diverged in to slower brooding tracks that borrowed heavily from the Bristol sound. We were eventually joined by James Cross on drums and James Gliddon on decks to complete our line-up. Two years and some great gigs later we all went our separate ways. Laura went to Australia, Matt joined the Metal band Twin Method. I decided to go back to uni and hone my programming and production skills.
Since then I have been writing and producing solo work and performing across the South West at experimental electro nights and with other acts.
I am currently working on a new sound and some new directions - watch this space...
